Mary grew up across the fields from The Hidcote Manor Gardens pictured here. Our cottage is five miles away from Hidcote, so we go to these gardens annually and have for 34 years. There are no end of lessons to be learned here: the power of straight lines, the role of shorn evergreens to provide structure in an otherwise blousy herbaceous garden; how to plant and place pots directly into a perennial border; how to choose pots and plants in them in relation to outbuildings and small structures.
